Mountains dripping with lush jungle vegetation, pristine white sand beaches flanked by coconut palms to one side and crystal-clear turquoise waters to the other. This is the backdrop to your perfect day afloat on Lailai Lounge. The Beqa Lagoon is one of Fiji’s best kept secrets
The pace is easy. The place is untouched
The Lailai Lounge is your ultimate Island Paradise. You will be ‘blown away’ by the colour of the water. Everyone is. Without fail, the first words uttered by people as they arrive are about the water. Lailai Lounge is nestled amidst the pristine aqua coloured waters of the Beqa Lagoon, Fiji Islands. The colours will soothe your eyes while the mountains, jungle, beach and water, are simply to die for
Your day is as lazy or as active as you want
Indulge in our simple but sumptuous BBQ menu. Wash it down with one of our selection of beers, wines, RTDs, or a Lailai cocktail. We source much of our produce from the local island communities, so it is super fresh, and supports the villages. The beers are icy cold and the burgers, be they beef, fish, vegetarian or vegan, are juicy and delicious.
Take your time snorkelling over the coral gardens of the nearby Marine Park, swimming through schools of bright and diverse tropical fish, and don’t be at all surprised to come across one of the gentle turtles that call this reef home.
Glide across the calm waters in one of our kayaks, or stand proud and paddle one of the SUPs off into the horizon. All with our compliments.
Discover additional, pre-arranged experiences like an island hike to a stunning lookout, a pampering massage to the sound of lapping waves on the pure white beach, a gourmet meal at the Lawaki Beach Resort, a remote sandbar visit, an extended paddling (kayak) guided safari, and (soon to be available) an adventurous sailing trip on the pirate ship “Kalista.”
Tucked into the lee (protected) side of Beqa Island, and with a limit of 30 people, the Lailai Lounge offers an exclusive and blissful atmosphere. There is plenty to do and experience, or if lazing is your game, we have loads of that too. Get to know our wonderful staff who are all local to the area. They love their home and you will too. Lailai means ‘little’ in Fijian
Lailai is where ‘less means more’
The Lailai Lounge is in Beqa Lagoon and on the lee (protected) side of Beqa Island – an intimate floating platform suspended over serene turquoise waters, just an easy 30-minute cruise from Pacific Harbour. You will board our 42ft purpose-built passenger catamaran, Tropic Breeze, from the Pearl Resort. Keeping the numbers to 30 people, we pledge an exclusive and intimate atmosphere, away from the hordes of tourists. You will venture into a realm where whales are returning to the Beqa Lagoon waters again, after a long hiatus. Keep your eyes peeled for these magnificent creatures along with dolphins and turtles which frequently grace the surrounding marine park reserve
About Beqa Island and Lagoon
Beqa (Fijian pronunciation: [mbeŋɡa]) is one of Fiji’s more than 320 islands. Beqa is an outlier to the main island of Viti Levu, 10 kilometres (6.2 miles) to the south. The island has a land area of 36.3 square kilometres (14 square miles) and reaches a maximum elevation of 440 metres (1,440 feet).
Beqa Lagoon is the submerged crater of an extinct volcano, and Beqa Island is where the lip of the crater breaks the surface. The diving within the lagoon is relatively shallow (less than 30 meters) with walls and deep water on the outside. The lagoon is nutrient-rich so hard and soft coral and small reef life proliferate. In addition, there are good populations of larger pelagic fish, turtles, etc.
The outer reef protects Beqa Island and with mild currents, underwater visibility more than 30 meters, and a relatively constant 27C degree (80 degrees Fahrenheit) water temperature. Almost 100 square miles in size, the Beqa Lagoon waters swirl with marine life nourished by plankton and other nutrients carried by the currents. You can see mantas, eagle rays and passing humpback whales in season.
The rocky island that dominates the horizon off Pacific Harbour (the adventure capital of Fiji) in southern Viti Levu isn’t only famous for its diving and deep-sea fishing. It’s also the home of Fiji’s legendary firewalkers; a tiny band of islanders bestowed with a special gift that seemingly protects them from fire.
It has no roads, no towns and only a few isolated villages scattered around the perimeter. The island is surrounded by one of the largest barrier reefs in the world and lies 8 km south of Viti Levu, about 130 km from Nadi
Fire walkers Beqa – History
It’s a great spot for adventurous tourists and famous for its fire walkers. According to legend, over 500 years ago, the men of Beqa Island were given the gift of being able to walk on fire by an eel in exchange for its life.
